WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — There will be a change in leadership at Wausau’s Hmong American Center by the end of this year.
The Center’s Board of Directors has announced that Yee Leng Xiong will step down as Executive Director by December 31st. He will maintain a smaller role in the organization, focusing on coordinating the Hmong Wausau Festival and the Hmong Museum.
“Throughout his tenure, Yee played a pivotal role in steering our organization through challenges and triumphs, including financial, community, and societal. His unwavering commitment, strategic vision, and collaborative spirit have been instrumental in reshaping the Hmong American Center’s trajectory and impact within the community as well as nationally,” said HAC Board President Bee Van Her.
During his tenure the center has achieved financial stability, improved outreach programs, and established a business incubator. He also helped to start a scholarship endowment at Northcentral Technical College.
The news comes roughly two months after Xiong announced his candidacy for the 85th Assembly District seat, currently held by Pat Snyder. The district was recently redrawn and no longer includes Snyder’s home, but the Republican has said he will move into the district if he wins re-election in November.
Xiong’s public service also includes tenures on the D.C. Everest School Board and Weston Board of Trustees. He currently serves on the Marathon County Board of Supervisors.
