WESTON, WI (WSAU) — A former municipal clerk in the Village of Weston is facing five felony counts for mishandling taxpayer funds.
Theresa Coleman is accused of transferring utility credits without approval from the property owner. According to investigators, she would credit those dollars to her own account or the accounts of people she knew.
In most cases, the credits came from a property that recently sold. The transfers amounted to $600-$700 per month.
More than $21,000 went missing over three years.

Court records show the 59-year-old is now facing five charges for misconduct in office, which could land her in prison for 14 years. Her initial appearance is scheduled for June 26th.
She has not been arrested and has no prior criminal history in Wisconsin.
The Village announced that she had been fired back in January when an investigation showed money was missing from their books. Further investigation showed that she had access to those funds. At the time the Village did not say how much money was missing.
