GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – One of the rumored favorites to be former President Donald Trump’s running mate this fall will be visiting Wisconsin this month to support 8th congressional district candidate Tony Wied.
According to WISN’s Matt Smith, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum will visit Green Bay and meet privately with local business owners alongside Wied who’s running against fellow Republican candidates Roger Roth and Andre Jacque.
Wied, who previously owned six Dino Stop gas stations and convenience stores, was endorsed by former President Trump back in April who stated in a post on Truth Social saying, “After selling his highly successful Oil and Gas Business, Tony Wied has decided to run for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District. Tony is running against RINO Roger Roth, who is a ‘clone’ of Paul Ryan, and no friend to MAGA – He should drop out of the Race NOW.”
“As your next Congressman, Tony will work hard to Unleash American Energy, Stop Inflation, Secure our Border, Support our Military / Vets, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment. Tony Wied has my Complete and Total Endorsement – He will not let you down,” Trump continued.
Wispolitics reported earlier this month that Donald Trump Jr. visited the Fox Valley to help fundraise for Wied at an event that included more than 150 attendees and raised more than $175,000. Following the event, Wied’s campaign released a statement thanking supporters saying, “Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District is hungry for a political outsider and Trump-Endorsed Conservative. I’m humbled by the support tonight, and it was an honor to host Donald Trump Jr. here in our community. Now we need to take care of business. We have less than three months to go until the primary, and we are going to earn every vote from now until August 13th. We have a country to save.”
According to recent data provided by Polymarket, Burgum currently holds the third-best odds to become Trump’s vice presidential choice at 17%, with Dr. Ben Carson leading the pack at 25% and South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott slightly behind at 21%.
