The Rib Mountain Tourism Commission will consider a $10,000 grant for the Blossom of Lights festival and Monk Botanical Gardens on Tuesday.
According to the posted agenda the item has been brought back “due to recent contact with the public and media attention.” The motion was discussed at another meeting two weeks ago but the committee took no action.
This comes after the Gardens’ management team received swift and harsh backlash to their brief name change in April. That decision was reversed weeks later.
The Village of Weston denied the Gardens’ request for tourism funding earlier this summer. They also received pushback from the Wausau Room Tax Commission because of the name change.
The Commissioners will also hear comments from the Greater Wausau CVB regarding a proposed effort to lure the 2026 Horseshoe World Championships to Weston’s Greenheck Turner Community Center. That item is currently an FYI, though if the event is awarded to Central Wisconsin they may come back later for a financial commitment.
Tuesday’s meeting begins at 4:30 PM at the Rib Mountain Village Hall. There will also be an option to join the meeting on Zoom. Public comment is part of the agenda.
