The Wausau City Council will vote Tuesday on a resolution instructing Mayor Doug Diny to reduce the city’s $2 million PILOT from the water utility.
The Payment In Lieu Of Taxes (PILOT) has gone between the water utility and the city for years. It became a talking point late last summer when some on the council, including then-alder Diny, suggested canceling it. That proposal failed just before Alders voted to approve the 2024 spending plan, though many on the council agreed it would be worth investigating in the new year, especially given recent increases in the city’s water rate.
No specifics on the proposal were included with Tuesday’s agenda packet, though the line item suggests that the move could reduce water rates by 10%.
The council will also consider adopting a mandatory lead service line replacement ordinance. To see Tuesday’s complete agenda packet, click here.
The meeting begins at 6:30 at City Hall. Public comment is part of the agenda.
