WASHINGTON D.C. (WSAU) – Former President Donald Trump has decided who will be his Vice President if he were to retake the White House in November.
According to a post on Truth Social from the former President, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, 39, has been chosen to be his VP “after considering the tremendous talents of many others.” Vance, a former U.S. Marine and the author of the renowned best-selling book turned Netflix movie “Hillbilly Elegy,” was praised by Trump in the post, saying, “J.D. has had a very successful business career in technology and finance, and now, during the campaign, will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond.”
According to Fox News, sources close to the matter confirmed in recent weeks that Trump had narrowed the field down to Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, former HUD Secretary Dr. Ben Carson, and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla).
However, according to sources who spoke to Reuters and Fox News, Sen. Marco Rubio, and Gov. Doug Burgum had been informed on Monday morning that they’d been eliminated from consideration, which further strengthened the odds that Sen. JD Vance could be named as Trump’s running mate on Monday afternoon.
His decision coincides with the opening day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee and comes just two days after a gunman at a rally in Pennsylvania shot Trump in the ear in a failed attempt to assassinate the former president.
