The Wausau Parks and Recreation Committee will discuss the intergovernmental services agreement with Marathon County to provide maintenance and management of the city’s parks on Monday.
According to the agenda packet, they’ll dive into whether the agreement should be terminated, which would allow the city to fold those tasks into the public works department.
Last week Mayor Doug Diny told WSAU News that the move could result in eliminating three or more full-time salaries from the city payroll and a total savings of nearly a half-million dollars. Diny also notes that no parks would be closed and services would not be scaled-down.
Diny’s memo to the committee is included as part of Monday’s agenda packet.
The item was originally listed as an update from City and County Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Director Jamie Polly, but an amended agenda posted on Thursday moved the item to discussion and possible action.
Monday’s meeting begins at 5:15 at City Hall.
