WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Tim Walz visited Central Wisconsin on Friday.
The current Minnesota Governor and running mate for Democratic Presidental nominee Kamala Harris was greeted at Central Wisconsin Airport by Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez, Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza, and 71st Assembly District Representative Katrina Shankland before a motorcade took him into Downtown Wausau.
From there the group stopped by Just Right: Cakes, Coffee, and Gifts; a Ukrainian bakery in downtown Wausau. There he greeted owners Anton and Anastasiia Chystiukhin and their son Mark, where he pledged continued support for Ukraine in their war against Russia and purchased some items for himself and Rodriguez.
The last stop was a rally at Whitewater Music Hall featuring comments from Wasz, Rodriguez, and Katelyn Lang of Wausau, Co-Founder of the Walk of Hope. Rodriguez introduced Walz. calling him an excellent choice for the #2 line on the Democratic ticket. Lang then told the story behind her cause including how she and her husband struggled to start a family.
Walz spoke for about 15 minutes, encouraging those in attendance to spread the word about the November 5th election by helping their friends and neighbors register to vote or simply reminding them how to request an absentee ballot.
The stop was one of several on the docket for the Harris/Walz ticket on Friday. VP Harris spent most of the day in Pennsylvania, while Walz began the day at Michigan State University in East Lansing.
Shortly after Friday’s visit, Republican VP nominee JD Vance announced he would visit the Eau Claire area on Wednesday, September 18th.
