The Wausau Human Resources Committee will meet in a special session on Tuesday to consider a new secure entrance policy for City Hall.
The policy would require visitors to check in at the door and print a visitor’s badge, which would be worn for the duration of their visit. It would also require them to be
There would also be a contractor badge for contract employees such as maintenance crews.
Employees would not be allowed to prop access doors for any reason and would be required to have their employee badge visible at all times.

The new policy is part of a series of security updates that were approved last year and have been slowly installed over the summer. The $231,000 project included bulletproof glass and a new Municipal Clerk’s office. It also changed the traffic flow for the City Clerk’s office and created a security barrier for the upper levels of City Hall that put the Mayor, City Attorney, HR, Community Development, and Public Works offices behind secure access.
The project had the backing of former Police Chief Ben Bliven and former Mayor Katie Rosenberg, who both cited several incidents involving weekend trespassers and arrests for disorderly conduct in city offices as reasons for the upgrades.
The proposal starts with the HR Committee at 5:00 PM and is also scheduled for approval at the council level during Tuesday’s regular meeting at 6:30. Public comment is part of the council agenda.
