MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – Brewers batters struck out 18 times but still managed to shut out the Mets, 6-0.
The game was meaningless for the Brewers, who are locked into the number-3 spot in the NL playoffs. The Mets, whose playoff future is uncertain, have lost three-in-a-row and are a game behind the Braves for the final playoff spot.
Joey Ortiz drove in three runs for Milwaukee. The Mets managed only two hits. Ortiz put the Brewers ahead 2-0 in the fourth by looping a full-count curveball from Jose Quintana into left-center for a bases-loaded single. The Brewers broke the game open adding 4-runs in the 8th.
The regular season ends today for the Brewers with a 2:05pm CT game against the Mets. The Mets will play a Monday doubleheader at Atlanta if their playoff status isn’t finalized. The Brewers will host playoff games Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday if necessary. Their opponent and game times haven’t been determined yet.
