MARATHON CITY, WI (WSAU) — Marathon City Administrator Steve Cherek remains laser-focused on growing the village.
In his first year, he’s seen significant progress in recreational and industrial growth, highlighted by new athletic facilities and a recent agreement to expand Menzner Hardwoods. While Cherek can’t provide the specifics of that expansion, he promises it will be big for the community. “It’s going to be right around a 100,000-square-foot manufacturing development [worth] about $11.5 million,” said Cherek. “It’s a substantial development for Marathon City.”
That involves the Village completing a water loop system which still needs another $2 million worth of work.
They’re also working on new athletic developments including three baseball diamonds, basketball courts, and pickleball courts. Those projects are being completed with donations and grants.
“[Those projects] have a lot of strong community support between businesses, families, and the school system,” said Cherek.
Cherek says there’s no shortage of developable land in the Village as well including their downtown 400 Block which currently hosts a Farmer’s Market each Thursday. There’s also space available in and near Tax Increment District 1 that is ready to go.
“We welcome about any style [of business]. Come talk to me, and we’ll find some places for you,” said Cherek.
