STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — UWSP basketball fans have a new option for taking in games in style.
Athletic Director Brad Duckworth says the new Pointer Premium Experience tickets include a full three-course meal and beverages in a courtside dining area. “We needed to think about different ways [for fans] to experience Pointer athletics including men’s basketball. So we started to think about how we could make a special atmosphere through a unique, exclusive area.”
Duckworth says they debuted the PPE seating on a smaller scale last season and spent the first few games working out issues like food delivery times. They opened the seating area for up to 80 fans in the second half of the season. This year they’ve added ten more seats.
Each game features a different theme such as Mexican, pizza, or BBQ. Appetizers are served approximately one hour before tip-off. The main course comes shortly after tip-off followed by dessert at the start of the second half. The drink menu includes beer from the Stevens Point Brewing Company along with Point Root Beer and water. Local wines are also offered.
Last call for alcoholic drinks comes with eight minutes remaining in the second half.
Duckworth adds that the seats were a hit during last year’s soft rollout. “The last eight, nine games of the season we sold out. There was no lack of demand down the stretch.”
About 75 PPE season seats have been sold, as of Monday. Single-game PPE tickets will be available starting Tuesday on a first-come, first-serve basis. Those interested should contact Kelly Romano in the Athletic Administration office.
General admission tickets for Pointer men’s basketball and hockey also go on sale Tuesday.
