STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A Portage County man is being held on a $50,000 cash bond for allegedly making threats against Democratic politicians.
Robert Arnold is accused of leaving a voicemail with Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson saying he would hunt Democrats down. Part of that transcript was read in court: “‘So I’m calling to notify you that it’s open season on these Democrats’ (expletive). We have twenty-four hours from seven o’clock a.m. Monday morning until I start going out there and hunting these little bastards.'”
He’s also accused of saying that as a former Marine, he would exterminate them off the face of the earth. Investigators say the message named some specific figures including Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin, VP and Democratic Presidential Nominee Kamala Harris, and her running mate Tim Walz. Local political Vinnie Miresse was also named.
Arnold will make an initial appearance on October 16 where a prosecutor said he will likely face terroristic threats charges. If he posts bond he will not be allowed to possess guns or ammo.
