MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — The Milwaukee Brewers took a 2-0 lead into the ninth inning but couldn’t hold it as the New York Mets rallied for a 4-2 on Thursday night at American Family Field.
Both starting pitchers were good in this one. Jose Quintana tossed six scoreless innings for the Mets while Tobias Meyers went five scoreless for the Brewers. Trevor Megill, Nick Mears and Freddy Peralta tossed three scoreless innings as well.
The Brewers broke the 0-0 deadlock in the 7th with back to back home runs from Jake Bauers and Sal Frelick.
They took that lead into the ninth and the Mets rallied against Milwaukee closer Devin Williams. He walked Francisco Lindor and after a strikeout Brandon Nimmo singled to put runners on the corners. That brought Pete Alonso to the plate and he nailed a three run homer. The Mets added an insurance run as well.
The Brewers got a baserunner in the 9th before Brice Turang hit into a game ending double play that also ended the Brewers season.
The Mets move on to face the Phialdelphia Phillies in the Division Round of the playoffs on Saturday.
