SCHOFIELD, WI (WSAU) — The Wisconsin Department of Justice-Division of Criminal Investigation has taken the lead on a deadly apartment fire in Schofield.
Crews responded to the blaze at about 4:45 AM at a complex along Grand Avenue near Taco Bell and The Office bar. One fatality and multiple injuries were reported including one person who was hospitalized.
No further information was released including details on the amount and nature of the damage. The DOJ notes that the investigation into the cause of the fire will “require significant time to reach a final determination.”
Responding units included the Riverside Fire Department, Kronenwetter, Mosinee, Wausau, Easton, Marathon City, and SAFER. The Salvation Army was also on hand to support first responders.
