MADISON, WI and MINNEAPOLIS, MN (WSAU) — The Wisconsin men’s hockey team fell in overtime to Ohio State in the Big Ten opener on Friday, 2-1.
Ryland Mosley opened the scoring three and a half minutes into the game with a power play goal. The lead held for most of the first period before OSU leveled the game with less than 20 seconds to go.
That was all the scoring in regulation. The Buckeyes found the game winner with about 15 seconds to go in the OT frame, claiming the extra standings point.
Tommy Scarfone made 21 saves in the loss including nine in the second period and one in OT. Wisconsin won 22 of the game’s 54 faceoffs.
Wisconsin and Ohio State play again at 6:00 PM. Due to Badger football earlier in the day, WSAU will not cover the game.
The top-ranked Wisconsin women defeated #3 Minnesota 5-0. Laila Edwards led the way with one goal and one assist.
Cassie Hall and Maggie Scannell also scored for the Badgers. Casey O’Brien also scored and went 14/21 in the faceoff circle.
Ava McNaughton made 18 saves to preserve the shutout.
Wisconsin remains unbeaten at 7-0-0 and 3-0-0 in conference play. The Gophers and Badgers play again this afternoon in Minneapolis.
