MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A Marshfield man has been sentenced to eight and a half years in prison for illegally possessing multiple firearms.
Jaison Coleman was found to have three handguns in his home following a domestic incident in April of 2023. Officers found his DNA on all three guns, which he wasn’t supposed to have due to previous felony convictions.
Officers also note that the 42-year-old was on probation at the time for a felony battery charge. US District Judge William Conley also revoked that probation, meaning he will also be required to serve 11 months in a county jail for that charge.
At sentencing, Judge Conley highlighted that this firearm incident was the latest in a long line of violence committed by Coleman, particularly against women, and Coleman’s criminal history was replete with assault and battery convictions. Judge Conley found Coleman’s possession of a firearm in connection with the recent domestic violence incident to be particularly egregious, according to a press release from the US District Court for Western Wisconsin.
