GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers have added another NFL Defensive Player of the Week award to their collection this season.
According to a press release from the NFL, rookie second-round pick Edgerrin Cooper has been the NFL Defensive Player of the Week for Week 8 after he recorded eight tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and a pass breakup in Sunday’s 30-27 win over the Jaguars. He is also the first Packers rookie to win the award since Clay Matthews did it back in 2009.
Cooper has had a strong start to his NFL career through the team’s first eight games, recording 24 total tackles as well as 2.5 sacks, and is expected to see more starting time alongside Quay Walker as the season continues.
