GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers have added a former first-round pick to their practice squad as they look to add depth to their linebacker position.
According to a Tuesday press release by the team, the Packers have signed former Commanders linebacker Jamin Davis and released linebacker Chris Russell.
In the 2021 draft, Davis, 25, was selected 19th overall and recorded 282 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 7.0 sacks, six pass breakups, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one interception during his 50 games with the Commanders. Between the 2022 and 2023 seasons, he missed just 13 tackles, recorded 82 stops, and applied 21 quarterback pressures.
Davis will backup linebackers Quay Walker and Edgerrin Cooper as well as rising star Eric Wilson who is expected to see time all over the field including special teams.
