STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza says he doesn’t care who you vote for, as long as you vote.
With the 2024 general election tomorrow, Wiza says the time is now to plan to vote if you haven’t already. “It is absolutely critical that you get out there and make your voice heard,” says Wiza. “Vote for the candidates that more closely align with your belief system so your representation at whatever level of Government it is more aligned with your beliefs so you can get things done. If you don’t vote, that’s like throwing up your hands and letting people walk all over you.”
Those who need a ride to their polling place can get one via the city’s Central Transportation bus service. All rides will be free on Election Day, and voters can plan their route through Google Maps or on the city’s website.
Wiza also hopes everyone remains calm and civil in the days following the election. “[As Mayor] I don’t care who you vote for or what you vote for. That’s your privilege. But that’s not the way it’s been in this country for the better part of four or five years. We’ve lost that as a country. We can disagree on things, but that doesn’t make us enemies. I hope people understand that. Get out there, exercise your right to vote, and be civil. Treat people with decency. Everyone.
In-person, absentee voting will not be offered today. Those who haven’t registered to vote can do so at the polls on Tuesday.
If you’re still hanging on to a completed absentee ballot that was mailed to you, it needs to be returned by 8 PM Tuesday. Contact your local clerk for details on where it should be dropped off.
