WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — A number of area school districts have school referendum votes on Election Day.
As results come in, we will continue to update you on if school district referendums passed or failed.
Antigo School District’s $54 million referendum passes
A $54 million dollar referendum for a new elementary school, an improvement they said was desperately needed, did pass.
Both referendum questions pass for Colby School District
Question one seeks $17,770,000 to fund a comprehensive school facility improvement project.
It would provide maintenance and improvements to many areas of the school campus that have needed attention for a while.
Question two weeks 7.7 million dollars to fund an improvement project at the elementary school.
The largest changes include transitioning 4th grade from the middle school to the elementary school to provide age appropriate learning spaces. It would also include relocating 8th grade from the high school to the middle school.
Marathon City narrowly passes school referendum
The $1.6 million referendum narrowly passed by about 200 votes. The margin was 1,549-1,356 with 53% of voters saying yes.
Marshfield School District $71 million referendum barely passes
Marshfield had the largest monetary referendum, seeking more than $70 million for improvements and to avoid cost cutting.
The referendum passed by a little more than 200 votes with 7,820-7,617.
In a release, The Marshfield School District staff and School Board would like to express their sincere appreciation with the community for their support. The district notes that this referendum will significantly impact its ability to maintain quality educational programs, safety, and opportunities for students – and the community – for years to come.
Medford School District fails by fewer than 100 votes
The Medford referendum narrowly was voted down. The race was decided by fewer than 100 votes in Taylor County, with 2,634 voting no while 2,575 approved the referendum. There are fewer than 30 voters in Marathon County.
The Medford Area Public School District was asking for $22.665 million to bring improvements to its schools.
Mosinee School District’s nearly $20 million referendum passes
The district was asking voters for $19.75 million to modernize the middle and high school buildings. The referendum passed easily with nearly 2/3 of voters approving the referendum.
Those updates and additions to the career and technical education learning areas, creating a secure entrance to the high school and improving technology infrastructure.
The referendum will be divided in two phases, with phase one happening in the first year. That phase focuses on replenishing the district’s budget.
The second phase runs from year two to year four, and would be for repairs to infrastructure, and raising teacher salary.
The Owen-Withee referendum passed.
Pittsville $6 million school referendum passes. The operational referendum is the district’s first since 2008.
