MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The Wisconsin Men’s Hockey team fell 3-2 to Minnesota in game one of this year’s four-game border clash on Friday.
Special teams featured heavily in this matchup with three of the five goals coming on power play chances. That included Quinn Finley’s goal with under seven minutes to go in the first to open the scoring.
Kyle Kukkonen doubled the lead early in the second with an even-strength goal, but from there it was all Gophers as they struck back with a power play goal and a shorthanded goal to send the game to the 3rd at 2-2.
Minnesota’s Jimmy Snuggerud netted the game-winner midway through the 3rd.
Sophomore William Gramme made 28 saves in the loss.
Wisconsin will look for the series split this evening. Pregame coverage will begin at 5:30 on WSAU.
