MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The Wisconsin Badger men’s basketball team picked up their first win of the season over a ranked opponent in grand fashion on Friday, 103-88 over #9 Arizona.
John Tonje led the way with 41 points, two shy of a single-game record for the Badgers. John Blackwell added 14.
Tonje also led the team in rebounds with six. He did most of his scoring damage at the free throw line where he went 21-22 on the night.
Steven Crowl added eight points, six assists, and four rebounds. Max Klesmit scored 13 points and recorded three rebounds.
A total of 63 fouls were called in the game, leading to 87 free throws. Wisconsin was more than comfortable at the line, going 41-47.
The game was part of a two-year, home-and-home agreement between the programs. Wisconsin lost to the Wildcats in Tuscon last November in the first meeting.
Friday’s game also included a ceremony honoring former Badger Head Coach Bo Ryan, who was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame this year.
Wisconsin returns to action on Monday against the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley. Tip-off from the Kohl Center is at 7 PM, with pregame coverage on WSAU beginning at 6:00.
