WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – A former Wisconsin congressman will be returning to Washington, D.C., to join President-Elect Trump’s administration.
According to a press release from the President-Elect’s transition team, former Wisconsin 7th congressional district representative and Hayward native Sean Duffy will be replacing Secretary Pete Buttigieg as the U.S. Transportation Secretary in January after spending the last few years working as an analyst for Fox News and CNN.
“During his time in Congress, Sean was a respected voice and communicator in the Republican Conference, advocating for Fiscal Responsibility, Economic Growth, and Rural Development. Admired across the aisle, Sean worked with Democrats to clear extensive Legislative hurdles to build the largest road and bridge project in Minnesota History,” President-Elect Trump said in the statement.
“Sean will use his experience and the relationships he has built over many years in Congress to maintain and rebuild our Nation’s Infrastructure and fulfill our Mission of ushering in The Golden Age of Travel, focusing on Safety, Efficiency, and Innovation. Importantly, he will greatly elevate the Travel Experience for all Americans,” Trump continued.
Duffy, 53, who began his professional career as a star of MTV’s “The Real World,” defeated former Wisconsin Democratic congressional representative Dave Obey back in 2010 and held the seat until 2019, when he resigned to help his wife and fellow Fox News host, Rachel Campos-Duffy, care for their ninth child after they learned of complications with the pregnancy. He was succeeded by current 7th congressional representative Tom Tiffany, who won his third term in office during this month’s election.
In a post on X, Rep. Tiffany praised his predecessor, saying, “I’m excited for Sean Duffy to bring Wisconsin common sense to the Department of Transportation. Let’s get back to investing in roads and bridges, not red tape and bureaucracy.”
Duffy will be Trump’s second cabinet selection from Fox News’ on-air staff after he appointed “Fox & Friends Weekend” co-host and Army National Guard veteran Pete Hegseth as his secretary of defense.
