SHAWANO, WI (WSAU) — The Shawano County man accused of strangling a woman did not go to trial this week as scheduled.
Court records show the attorney for Michael Ingold dropped out on Thursday, leaving the 60-year-old without legal representation as he faces one count of intentional homicide.
Investigators say Ingold strangled a woman to death in June 2022. His trial had been scheduled to run for 23 days, ending on December 20th.
The case has been scheduled for trial on numerous occasions, only to be postponed as the state and the defense argue over the admissibility of certain evidence. That includes phone calls made to the Shawano County jail and testimony from certain witnesses. There has also been an attempt to exclude statements made about guns and hand grenades.
Previous attempts at trial came in September 2023, January 2024, and March 2024.
A status conference is now set for December 5th. If found guilty at trial Ingold faces a mandatory life sentence with only the possibility of parole to be discussed.
