MADISON, WI (WSAU) – The Marquette Golden Eagles and the Wisconsin Badgers are moving up in the latest Associated Press college basketball rankings after extending their undefeated starts to the season over the weekend.
According to the poll, the Marquette Golden Eagles have moved up five spots this week to be ranked 10th in the nation after they defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 80-69 on Saturday to advance to 6-0 on the season, while the Wisconsin Badgers have moved up four spots to 15th overall after their 81-75 Greenbrier Tip-Off Championship win over Pittsburgh.
The Badgers were led once by off-season transfer John Tonje, who scored 33 points on 11 for 19 shooting from the field against the Panthers, pulling his season average up to 23 points per game this season, which is the ninth most in college basketball, while the Golden Eagles were too much for the Bulldogs as forward David Joplin scored a season-high 29-points.
The Badgers will be back in action on Saturday morning when the pre-game begins against Chicago State on WSAU with tip-off scheduled for noon, and the Golden Eagles will return the court on Wednesday evening against the Skyhawks of Stonehill, with tip-off set for 8 p.m. on FS2.
