WASHINGTON D.C. (WSAU) – A ceasefire deal between Israel and the terrorist organization Hezbollah is moving in a positive direction and signals the end of the war that began almost 15 months ago.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to chair a meeting of Israel’s security cabinet on Tuesday to examine and perhaps approve the ceasefire document, according to the New York Post.
“We’re close,” but “nothing is done until everything is done,” White House national security spokesperson John Kirby stated Monday in Washington.
Elias Bou Saab, the deputy speaker of Lebanon’s parliament, and another Israeli official told Reuters that the plan calls for Israeli troops to leave south Lebanon and Lebanese army troops to go into the border region, which is a stronghold for Hezbollah, within 60 days.
Lebanon’s health ministry, which does not differentiate between civilians and Hezbollah fighters in its statistics, reports that over 3,750 people have died and over a million have been displaced since the war began last fall.
In northern Israel and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, Hezbollah strikes have claimed the lives of forty-five civilians. According to Israeli sources, at least 73 Israeli soldiers have lost their lives in battle in southern Lebanon, the Golan Heights, and northern Israel.
