MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – One of the Brewers’ key starting pitchers in 2024 will not return next season after signing a deal to play in the National League East.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Frankie Montas, who was acquired by the Brewers from the Cincinnati Reds during last season’s trade deadline, has signed a two-year deal worth $34 million to join the New York Mets after he declined his 2025 option worth $16 million before being traded to Milwaukee.
The Brewers are expected to have former ace Brandon Woodruff and former top prospect Robert Gasser back and will lean on Freddy Peralta, Tobias Myers, and Aaron Civale to lead the rotation, so the loss of Montas, who had a 4.84 ERA last season, won’t likely be felt as much in 2025.
