A pair of big end-of-year discussions are on tap for leaders in Wausau on Thursday.
First at 11 AM the Water Works Commission will hear a presentation on fluoride in drinking water, as many wonder if the additive will be banned in the coming months.
The debate over adding fluoride to public water sources has re-emerged in recent months following a report that suggested “with moderate confidence” that there is a link between excessive fluoride exposure and lower IQ in children. It’s also believed that President-Elect Donald Trump will push to remove fluoride from drinking water.
Later in the evening, the city’s Economic Development Committee will consider a plan to add permanent parking around Athletic Park including two paved and stripped lots. That includes a lot at the former Wausau Chemical site and one at the Nelson-Miller site just beyond the outfield wall.
The city will also consider a new ADA lot on donated land near the home plate gate. The home on that parcel was recently destroyed in a fire.
City leaders hope to finalize plans by the middle of next year and complete work on the lots by mid-2026. Click here for the agenda materials for Tuesday’s meeting.
