MADISON, WI (WSAU) – The Wisconsin Badgers are losing two defenders to the transfer portal after their season ended on Saturday with the loss to Minnesota.
According to Jesse Temple of The Athletic, outside linebacker Leon Lowery will enter the transfer portal after just one season with the Badgers. Lowery, who transferred to Wisconsin from Syracuse over the summer, had just one sack in 2024 and 29 tackles (18 solo).
Meanwhile, redshirt freshman cornerback and former four-star recruit Amare Snowden announced in a post on X on Sunday night that he will join Lowery in the transfer portal when it opens on December 9th after recording only one tackle in limited playing time this season.
“I would like to thank my coaches and teammates for the experiences and lessons throughout the past two years of my life. I will forever be grateful for the Wisconsin community. With that said, after deep consideration and talking with my family, I have made the decision to enter the transfer portal with three years of eligibility left,” Snowden wrote.
Both the outside linebacker and cornerback positions have been competitive for the Badgers over the last year, with true freshman Xavier Lucas seeing playing time alongside Ricardo Hallman throughout the 2024 season while fellow four-star Omillio Agard is expected to take over Hallman’s starting job in 2025, meaning Snowden would’ve likely not seen the field much next season. The Badgers also have a long line of pass rushers looking to make an impact in 2025, including four-star defensive end Ernest Willor Jr., three-star linebacker Anelu Lafaele, and three-star linebacker Thomas Heiberger, and the departure of Lowery will likely guarantee that Badgers fans will get to see many of Wisconsin’s young players when they open the 2025 season next August.
