MADISON, WI (WSAU) – The Wisconsin Badgers may have found their next starting quarterback after landing one of their top targets in the transfer portal.
According to 247 Sports, San Diego State transfer and former three-star quarterback Danny O’Neil has committed to the Badgers after throwing 2,181 yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions for the Aztecs this past season as a true freshman.
The Badgers lost former starters Braedyn Locke and Tyler Van Dyke to the transfer portal last week, opening up head coach Luke Fickell and new offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes to begin a quarterback battle between former four-star recruit Mabrey Mettauer, incoming true freshman Carter Smith, and now Danny O’Neil.
O’Neil isn’t the first player in the transfer portal to commit to Wisconsin in recent days as former Ball State tight end Tanner Koziol, Tulane defensive lineman Parker Petersen, Western Michigan defensive lineman Corey Walker, and Louisville edge rusher Mason Reiger all announced that they will be joining the program for the upcoming 2025 season.
