MADISON, WI (WSAU) – Wisconsin Badgers’ former offensive coordinator, Phil Longo, has accepted an offer to return to coaching after being fired from the program earlier this fall.
According to Mike Craven of Texas Football, Sam Houston State is hiring Phil Longo as its next head coach, marking his second stint as a head coach after he coached La Salle University during the 2004 and 2005 seasons, going 7-14 during that span.
Before having a spectacular 9-3 season in 2024, the Bearkats struggled to find wins, going 3-9 in 2023. Their vacancy was caused by head coach K.C. Keeler leaving Sam Houston State to become the next head coach at Temple following the 2024 regular season.
Meanwhile, Jeff Grimes, who came from the University of Kansas, was hired by Wisconsin to take Longo’s place as offensive coordinator. Grimes is expected to bring the Badgers back to a more traditional pro-style offense, replacing Longo’s “air-raid” style of play.
