MADISON, WI (WSAU) – The Wisconsin Badgers quarterback position is continuing to shrink, as another former top recruit announced over the weekend that he is leaving the program.
According to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, Mabrey Mettauer, a redshirt freshman quarterback for Wisconsin, intends to enter the transfer portal with four years of eligibility remaining after only one season in Madison.
Mettauer was a four-star recruit in the class of 2024 when he joined the Badgers last offseason. He was also the 31st-best quarterback in the 2024 class and the 74th-best overall recruit from Texas.
Mettauer’s path to starting in 2025 was complicated by quarterbacks Billy Edwards Jr. and Danny O’Neil signing with Wisconsin and the hiring of new offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes, who would bring a completely new scheme to Madison.
He was the last quarterback from last season’s roster still with the program as Tyler Van Dyke, Braedyn Locke, and Cole LaCrue all entered the portal since the season ended. None are yet to make a decision on where they will play next.
