MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Bucks are benching one of their top stars indefinitely as he continues to struggle with issues caused by his off-season surgery on both ankles.
Bucks head coach Doc Rivers told Middleton about the change Sunday, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes. Rivers cited a need to maintain consistency in the starting lineup that may include reinserting Taurean Prince back into the starting lineup for the time being. This decision will take effect starting tonight when the Bucks host the San Antonio Spurs.
At 12.7 points and 5.0 assists per game so far this season, Middleton’s scoring average is the lowest since his second NBA season in 2013–14.
This move comes as the Bucks have been rumored to be involved in the Jimmy Butler sweepstakes, though their level of interest is not expected to be high and they would only make a deal for the All-Star for the right price, according to a report by Sports Illustrated’s Matt Levine. Butler is currently serving a seven-game suspension after he publicly asked the Heat to trade him over the weekend.
