WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – An annual Wausau tradition is finally coming back for the season, as the Marathon County Park Department has started building the ice rink on the 400 block.
Because of a lack of snow this season, the Parks Department is trying something new. Normally they need two to three inches of snow on the ground as a base for the rink, but Mother Nature hasn’t obliged so far this year. So instead they’re trucking in manmade snow from Sylvan Hill to build that base. Once that’s in place, then they’ll flood the rink and wait for it to freeze.
As long as it stays cold over the next few days, they hope ice skating can begin this weekend or early next week.
