STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) – The Portage County Sheriff’s office is warning the public of a new scam that has been reported in the area.
According to a statement from the department, the scam involves making phony calls from the non-emergency number 715-346-1400 and impersonating Detective Sergeant Blake Porter, claiming that the victim has a warrant for their arrest or that they have missed a recent jury duty summons.
Portage County Sheriff Mike Lukas advised anyone who receives a call that matches this description to hang up and not give the caller any personal information.
