MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers and superstar catcher William Contreras failed to reach an arbitration deal on Thursday night before the deadline after a career year in 2024.
According to MLB Trade Rumors, Contreras entered arbitration this season with a projected salary of $7.6 million, after earning just $767,000 in 2024. Mark Feinsand reports that the Brewers filed at $5.6 million yesterday, while Contreras filed at $6.5 million.
Contreras, who is in his first year of arbitration, just finished another fantastic season with the Brewers, hitting 23 home runs and 92 RBIs to finish fifth in the NL MVP voting.
The Brewers can continue to bargain with Contreras until his arbitration hearing, which is expected to occur in early February, as they did with former closer Devin Williams last year, according to Brewers insider Curt Hogg.
Milwaukee was able to strike agreements with numerous pitchers, including recently acquired starter Nestor Cortes ($7.6 million) and reliever Trevor Megill ($1.94 million).
