LOS ANGELES, WI (WSAU) – The man who police arrested over the weekend for starting the Kenneth wildfire with a blowtorch in Los Angeles has been identified as an illegal migrant from Mexico.
According to the New York Post, the Los Angeles police department identified Juan Manuel Sierra-Leyva as the suspect after Woodland Hills residents chased him and called authorities after he was seen using a “flamethrower” to start the wildfire last Thursday.
Without mentioning his prior conviction, the LAPD stated that Sierra-Leyva is being held on a felony probation violation. The sources told the Post that ICE does not anticipate that its detainer request, which was sent three days ago, will be complied with because of California’s sanctuary state law.
According to records, Sierra-Leyva has a long criminal history in LA County and has been found guilty of several offenses, including assault with a deadly weapon in 2023. Together, he has served more than two years in prison since entering the US.
