GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – One of the Packers’ most tenured coaches is stepping down after nearly two decades with the franchise.
According to head coach Matt LaFleur, who spoke with the media on Tuesday morning, quarterbacks coach Tom Clements informed him on Monday that he will retire after spending 12 years in Green Bay and being the only coach to work with all of the teams’ superstar quarterbacks in Brett Farve, Aaron Rodgers, and Jordan Love.
“Man, it’s been such a cool ride with him the past few years,” LaFleur said during his media availability.
When he rejoined the Packers staff in 2022, Aaron Rodgers praised him and credited him with much of his development saying, “Tom and I go way back. I love Tom. I owe him so much credit for my development, so I’m happy to see him back in the game. The game is better when Tom Clements is coaching because he’s one of those special coaches.”
Clements spent 12 seasons as a quarterback in the Canadian Football League, where he was a seven-time divisional all-star, league MVP (1987), and Grey Cup champion twice (1976 and 1984).
Before joining Green Bay in 2006, he coached quarterbacks for the New Orleans Saints (1997-99), Kansas City Chiefs (2000), and Pittsburgh Steelers (2001-03) and was the Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator from 2004 to 2005.
