CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The first step in Jake and Dick Leinenkugel’s attempt to buy back the Chippewa Falls Brewery from Molson Coors has been rejected.
A statement was made Wednesday by Jake and Dick Leinenkugel confirming their attempt at a deal had fallen through, saying, “We want to reassure our employees at the brewery and Leinie Lodge, as well as our partners, retailers, distributors, and fans, that we are committed to exploring every avenue to preserve this vital part of our history.”
According to 18 News, Molson Coors announced in November that it would close its major brewery in Chippewa Falls and shift output to its main plant in Milwaukee. The brewery is scheduled to close on Friday, which will affect 56 employees.
The decision to close the Chippewa Falls brewery has left Jake and Dick Leinenkugel, who both retired from the company in recent years, “profoundly saddened.” They said that for over 157 years, it has been the center of Leinenkugel’s.
