GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is a candidate to become the next head coach of the New York Jets after just one season with the organization.
According to Sports Illustrated NFL Insider Albert Breer, Hafley, who is a New Jersey native, is scheduled to interview for the position later this week after leading the Packers’ defense to one of their most successful seasons in recent memory.
Under Hafley, the Packers had the sixth-ranked overall defense in the league in 2024, allowing less than 5,400 total yards and 21.9 points per game, according to ESPN data.
Other coaches who have interviewed for the Jets job include Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich, former Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi, Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, and former Bears head coach Matt Nagy.
Hafley isn’t the first Packers coordinator to receive interest from other teams, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported earlier this week that offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich interviewed to be the next head coach of the Chicago Bears, though it’s believed Chicago will go with a more experienced head coach when they make their final decision.
