MADISON, WI (WSAU) – The Wisconsin Badgers are back in the top 20 in the latest Associated Press coaches poll. Their impressive win streak was extended over the weekend, while the Marquette Golden Eagles fell slightly but remained in the top ten.
According to the poll, the Badgers have moved up six spots to 18th overall. The team looks to extend its winning streak to seven over the weekend following its 84-69 win over the USC Trojans on Saturday.
Rising star sophomore John Blackwell led the way for the Badgers, scoring 28 points on a scorching 10-of-16 field goal and a solid 6-of-7 free throw. With 58.3% shooting from the field and a scorching 46.7% from beyond the arc, the Badgers scored 42 points in the first half while totaling 17 assists. Max Klesmit added 18 points on 50% shooting from the field despite shooting just 2-9 from three-point range.
Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles’ six-game win streak came to an end on Saturday with a 59-57 loss to Xavier at home. Superstar guard Kam Jones struggled to hit shots against the Musketeers going 1-6 from three-point range and scoring only 11 points in 39 minutes played while forward David Joplin had a similar day going 1-8 from three-point range and scoring 18 points in 38 minutes played.
Marquette will head on the road this week on Tuesday to take on Seton Hall, tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on Peacock while the Badgers Los Angeles road trip continues as they face UCLA on Tuesday at 8:30 on WSAU.
