(WTAQ-WLUK) — The average house in Wisconsin sold for more than $300,000 in December, while overall sales increased 9.2% compared to a year earlier.
The Wisconsin Realtors Association released its monthly report on Thursday.
It found a growth in sales that was the largest since May. The median price rose to $305,000, a 13% year-over-year increase that was the largest of any month in 2024.
“We saw the strongest December sales since 2021 even as affordability fell over that period,” WRA board chair Chris DeVincentis said in a news release. “This good sign indicates that buyers who work with a Realtor during winter may find opportunities that would be unavailable during the peak season. Sellers in the winter are often highly motivated to sell and likely open to price concessions compared to peak months.”
Supply remained low, with 2.7 months’ worth well below the six months of supply that the WRA considers a balanced market. Total listings statewide were up 3.8% from December 2023, but new listings in December 2024 were down 3.7% compared to a year earlier.
In Northeast Wisconsin, 1,072 homes were sold in December, a 13.9% increase over December 2023. The median price was $285,000, a 14% increase over December 2023.
