GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – A former Packers’ Super Bowl-winning running back was pronounced dead on Friday morning following an accident in his home.
According to KETV, Calvin Jones, who won the Super Bowl with the Packers in 1997, was found dead in his basement by Omaha police in what was believed to be caused by carbon monoxide poisoning.
Jones told his neighbor that he was experiencing issues with his furnace, according to the outlet. As a result, he had to utilize a generator because of the cold weather in the area. Omaha had been experiencing evening temperatures down into the low teens in recent days.
In 1994, Jones was selected in the third round of the NFL Draft out of Nebraska by the Raiders. Before playing his final season in the NFL with the Packers, he spent two seasons in Oakland rushing for 112 yards in 16 NFL games throughout his career.
