ROTHSCHILD, WI (WSAU) — The transformation of the former Shopko area in Rothschild is nowhere near complete.
Administrator Ryan VanDeWalle says shoppers will see a facade facelift this summer, especially near Harbor Freight tools and south. “It will be a much more modern, rustic approach. You’ll see a lot of construction there [this summer] along with some changes in the parking lot.”
The area is also ripe for new businesses, though none of the potential tenants can be announced now. He says a building with “multiple tenants” is planned for a vacant parcel near Clean Slate Coffee, though details won’t be finalized until 2026.
VanDeWalle says improving the “curb appeal” along Business 51 has been a priority, especially since it’s one of the most traveled roads in Marathon County. “We know that there is a focal point here. We want to make sure this is an area that pops, an area people want to be at.”
He expects three will be more development news for the Village later this spring, though details of what that could be can’t be released at this time.
