STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A Stevens Point man will serve 10 years in prison for stabbing another man during an argument at the downtown library.
Frank Jackson was sentenced on Friday as part of a plea deal reached last October. Jackson pled no contest to one count of attempted homicide. In exchange, the state dropped multiple other charges including physical abuse of an elderly person and aggravated battery.
Additional terms include four years of extended supervision along with court-mandated treatment. He was given credit for one year already served in jail.
Jackson was found guilty of stabbing a 71-year-old man during an argument about money. Investigators say Jackson had taken a loan from the man earlier in the day, then returned to ask for more money in the afternoon. When he was turned down, he became upset and was asked to leave the library.
He returned sometime later and another argument broke out and they were both kicked out of the building. That’s when Jackson produced a knife and stabbed the man in the torso.
The victim suffered a punctured lung but survived.
Jackson, 30, was originally scheduled for trial in November before reaching the plea deal.
