GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The 2025 NFL Draft combine is less than two weeks away, and many of the top prospects with the most potential but also the highest risks will be working out and interviewing with teams such as the Packers.
Here are the top five high-risk/high-reward prospects to watch for Packers fans to watch for during the Combine.
- Notre Dame cornerback Benjamin Morrison: Scouts and analysts have ranked Morrison as one of the top cornerbacks in the 2025 class despite suffering a hip injury that ended his 2024 season in October and posting a career-low 68.4 PFF coverage grade before the injury. He was a 2024 Associated Press and USA Today Preseason Second-Team All-American and finished seventh nationally with six interceptions as a true freshman in 2022. The Packers have an obvious need for a true number-one cornerback due to Jaire Alexander’s injury struggles. Still, due to Morrison’s hip, teams will need to decide if his potential outweighs his injury concerns.
- Georgia pass rusher Mykel Williams: Williams is projected to be a top 25 pick in April’s draft despite failing to post a pass-rushing grade from PFF above 70.0 and record more than five sacks in a season during his three seasons with the Bulldogs creating questions among scouts if he’s an outside linebacker or defensive end in the NFL. Green Bay needs another star edge rusher who can help Rashan Gary avoid double-teams and get to the quarterback more consistently and Williams no doubt has the potential to be that guy but could need a year or two to develop.
- TCU wide receiver/running back Savion Williams: Williams, who’s built like a tight end at 6’5 225 lbs., was a member of the 2024 and 2023 Honorable-Mention All-Big 12 team and can be a star in the NFL if he can improve his route running skills and lower his drop totals. Williams recorded eight drops in 2024 alone but is still considered a top 60 player in this year’s class, according to PFF. He finished the 2024 season as a wildcat running back and kick/punt returner for the Horned Frogs and Matt LaFleur might be willing to take a chance on him on Day Two due to his versatility.
- Ohio State defensive lineman Tyleik Williams: Williams is an extremely exciting prospect who showed his ability to get after the quarterback during his time with the Buckeyes. However, he also is believed to be one of the most inconsistent defensive prospects in the 2025 class due to his “habit of false stepping or hopping out of his stance, contributing to poor pad level, which makes it more difficult for him to take on double-teams and impacts the consistency of his bull rush,” according to Bleacher Report. The Packers need a young athletic tackle to help Kenny Clark inside and Williams could be a star in Jeff Hafley’s aggressive defensive scheme.
- North Carolina State offensive tackle/guard Anthony Belton: Belton, who stands at 6’6 336 lbs., is considered one of the strongest and athletic offensive line prospects in the 2025 NFL draft prospects despite being an unranked prospect out of high school in 2019 and spending two years at the Georgia Military Academy before transferring to NC State in 2021. The Packers could replace Josh Myers with Zach Tom at center in 2025 if he decides to sign elsewhere in free agency and Belton could have the tools to be a starting right tackle/guard in the NFL but only having three years of high-level football experience creates a lot of questions around his potential.
The 2025 NFL Combine in Indianapolis begins on February 27th, with the Packers anticipated to interview scores of players over the first two days, as defensive linemen/linebackers will work out for teams on day one and defensive backs/tight ends on day two.
