MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A deer raised in Eau Claire County has tested positive for Cronic Wasting Disease, triggering a new two-year feeding ban in neighboring Clark County.
According to the Wisconsin DNR, the deer was farm-raised at a facility located ten miles from Jackson and Clark Counties. Therefore bans must be implemented in all three areas.
The Clark County ban will start on March 1st and will run through 2027. The move is designed to control the spread of CWD by limiting areas where deer can congregate and spread the disease through saliva, blood, and other elements.
The positive test does not impact Eau Claire or Jackson counties, which already have bans lasting beyond March 1st, 2027.
