The Wausau City Council will consider an override of Mayor Doug Diny’s veto of a council resolution supporting Medicaid.
Diny vetoed the measure last Monday, saying it is not the Council’s business to go “looking for problems outside of the city,” and adding that the council has enough work to do with issues going on in the city.
Though Alders supported the measure 10-0 with one abstention from Alder Becky McElhaney, who didn’t vote because she works in the medical field.
Council President Lisa Rasmussen was among the Alders who spoke out against the Mayor’s action. She said the veto was disappointing, adding, “Funding and program cuts that reduce citizens’ access to health care and mental health services create direct impact to local services, agencies and taxpayers. The council will gladly take this matter up on March 11.”
Tonight’s meeting begins at 6:30 at City Hall and will be available to watch via YouTube. Public comment is part of the agenda.
