MERRILL, WI (WSAU) – A $250,000 cash bond has been issued for a Merrill man identified as Austin Stevenson, 25, who is suspected of killing his father.
On Friday, Stevenson was charged with first-degree intentional homicide and burglary after John Stevenson, 48, was found dead at his Corning home on Tuesday after a welfare check.
Court documents state that John Stevenson’s missing status was the reason for the first dispatch call. They arrived at the home, which was occupied by Austin Stevenson when they got there. Deputies inquired about his father’s location when he said he was in the hallway, and Stevenson claimed that he had shot him.
According to the coroner, Stevenson’s head had suffered two gunshot wounds, but neither Friday’s hearing nor the court documents revealed a motive for the shooting. Stevenson will return to court on April 24th.
